One of my favorite ongoing annual connections is an art exchange via Creative Connections. Every year students create art based on a specific theme, and are partnered with another class. Cultural insights abound, but in a fun and thoughtful way. So far, we've connected with students in China, Nepal, Guatemala (twice!), Turkey, and Japan.

One of my first successful collaborative experiences was with the Global Read Aloud. Together, my 3rd graders and I discussed The One and Only Ivan with classes in Canada and other states. The other teachers and I planned which chapters to read, and students talked about the book with a very real audience of other students their age, reading "the same book!" Some ideas from what we did can be found below. There are many embedded ways to take action, that I would now add to this curriculum! The One and Only Ivan Oct 12, 2012 ...
